Hi all! I guess I will start out my membership here with a technical question that I have been searching all over for an answer to. For some reason when I do a search here my results page comes up as a blank window, so I will just post and ask.

I recently upgraded to Firefox 1.5 and whenever I try typing a word in a text box (i.e. my google search home page text box) the text box will pull up previously typed words, if relative, and then the ol' pizza wheel of death pops up and starts turning and never stops. I have to then execute a force quit on the program and start over. I may have to go back to Safari if I can't resolve this, but prefer Firefox other than this issue. It was not an issue prior to installing 1.5. I can't seem to find any mention of fix to this on any of the Mozilla support pages, unless I am just missing it.

Any input or direction from someone else who may have experienced this or has a fix would be greatly appreciated!

Are you using an Intel Mac? If so, download the latest Intel only Deer Park build of Firefox.

Sorry, I should have posted that I am on a SE iBook still. Running 10.2.8

I know, I am way overdue for an upgrade, but I have been waiting for the new iBooks to come out hopefully in a couple months.

Well, still, Firefox shouldn't start beachballing forever with just a simple forum Autofill thing. However I could at least recommend upgrading to Panther, if not Tiger (I would think the former could be found on eBay or something for a decent price).

If it only started with Firefox 1.5 then I would first try dumping the preferences, if that didn't work then I might try using a nightly build or try downgrading and see if the problem persists.

Yeah, so I am on an old laptop, but I have had no issues with speed and loading time until now. I had tried the Beta version of 1.5 and it did the same thing, so I downgraded and issue went away. I was hoping the finished version would be the answer. Obviously, it didn't help. I can downgrade again, just didn't want to have to do that.

I am not too technical savvy so I am not sure by what you mean by "nightly build". I will try dumping the preferences and see what happens. What's the safest way to do that without screwing anything else up? It probably wouldn't hurt to upgrade my OS. I was just planning on waiting and not spending the money as I will be getting a new laptop in the next few months. Ebay might be a quick fix for now in getting Panther or Tiger. Thanks for the help!

If you're going to be getting a new laptop in a few months, I wouldn't bother spending any money on upgrading the OS at this point.

As for your issue with FIrefox, I wish had some advice.

Happens to me too. (only in 1.5) I now routinely clear 'saved form information' in 'clear private data'.

Oh yeah. G4 Powerbook w/Tiger.

Thanks! I just set my preferences to clear the saved form info each time I close out. That will solve the problem and still allow me to use 1.5 I should have figured that one out on my own. I just didn't dealve into my preferences enough. I guess that is what this forum is for! That should tie me over until I get the new iBook when it comes out.
