I have a very big shared message folder in one of my accounts that I want to ignore for all Smart Mailbox searches and updates, but I want to be able to combine some "any" and "or" clauses in my mail rules - i.e.:

recipient is ___ or recipient is ____ or recipient is ____ but folder is not my huge shared mail folder

It seems that there is no way to create rules this sophisticated?

As an alternate workaround, is there anyway to change how often Smart Mailbox updating is done? I'd like to decrease this frequency since tearing through this giant mailbox seems to really slow it down...

The simplest way is to combine mailboxes, just as with playlists in iTunes.
i.e. make a smart mailbox A: 'recipient is ___ or ___ or ___'
then make a smart mailbox B: 'not in this huge mail folder'
and finally, make a smart mailbox C: 'is in A and B'

Or, to dive under the metal:

Very helpful! Thanks...

My only remaining desire is for smart mailboxes to be able to allow/accept mail from a certain mailbox *including* other mailboxes contained within this mailbox - i.e. recursively follow through the entire hierarchy.
