At the moment I use a PC and I'm thinking of buying a MacBook Pro. Is there a Mac equivalent to Microsoft Access? I mainly use Access as a quick way of generating SQL strings.

I'm assuming you don't want to install Windows XP on your MacBook (via Boot Camp) and run Access from that.

Microsoft has told Mac users to use FileMaker Pro because they're not porting Access to OS X because the market isn't big enough. http://www.filemaker.com/

Here's another program that allows you to generate SQL strings. They have a Mac version.

Also, there's a beta of Parallels Virtualization, which will allow you to run Windows XP while still booted in OS X. That gives you another option.

Using Access to generate SQL strings is kind of like using a pile driver to open walnuts, isn't it? I agree with Spliff about the freeware, but going to the trouble of running a VM just to create SQL strings sounds like getting a bigger pile driver to me.
