I buy a Digital Camcorder and then I realize that its a regular one with a USB cable that you can download from it digital video clips! mpeg 1 and 2 format only, and when I try to load those files on iMovie it shows the video but not the audio, so, I want to use iMovie, can anyone tell me what to do? I'm Stuck Here.

Look at the manufacturer's website and see if they have a FireWire cable.

you can try to convert them with handbrake (free!!!) and then use in imovie. I'm actually doing it because my parents bought a DVD writer and they converted all the VHS's tapes into DVDs but imovie can't import VOB files. So i'm converting them and using in imovie.

To convert the MPG-2 content into something useable, you can use DVDxDV at http://www.dvdxdv.com/DVDxDV.overview.htm
or MPEG Streamclip at http://www.squared5.com/ which requires Apple's $20 MPEG-2 Playback Component

Roxio's Toast Titanium 7 will also let you convert MPEG-2 to DV

What does that have to do with this thread? I'm not going to continue a rant because there are plenty of threads in this forum that debate these "limitations", and this particular thread is not the place for it. Try offering a solution next time you post.

I Was The One:

I think the best way to capture the footage from your camcorder to your Mac would be to invest in a DV Converter. By ripping and reconverting the movie clips from your USB connection, you run into the possibility of quality loss, and it will give you more trouble than it may be worth.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61745

Have you looked into the possibility of returning your camcorder for one that has firewire?

Thanks for posting an update! Come to think of it, I have heard of MPEG Streamclip, however, I've never had the opportunity to try it out. I'm curious to know how good the quality is of your final product.

I work in broadcast television and have access to numerous ways of capturing footage, and because of that, I forget that the average Mac user doesn't always have access to DV converters and stuff. I'll have to keep this Streamclip program in mind when trying to help out again.
