I am struggling to sync audio and slides in an iMovie project. It seems a change in a transition alters the overall timing. Currently I am just going bit by bit.

Options:
Would another app be better for this task (DVD Studio, Final Cut)
Any tips on syncing audio and slides?

You could do it in iPhoto and set it up to sync in the options, then export it as a Quicktime movie. The only caveat is you're limited in the transition choices.
I have no lid upon my head. But if I did, you
could look iniside and see what's on my
mind.

You can extract the audio from the video track and have it as a separate entity in the time line. Then apply the transitions to the video track and it should not affect the audio track. Select the entire video track and go to the Advanced menu an select the Extract Audio option.

If you have the option of using Final Cut, then I would recommend that. I personally like the interface better, plus you'll get the option of layering, which can give you better flexablility with creativity.
I gotta have more cowbell.
