So, Im working on my MAC tonight and I go to "alt tab" over to my finder for an application and it wasn't there. So I went to go select it in my DOC and it was not there either. I then proceeded to re-launch it in the force quit menu and it just went away.

Its like Finder just said "ok guys im out of here" and left through the backdoor without saying anything. What an @sshole. It could have at least said something.

Needless to say im going to restart now and see what happens. Believe it or not, besides my first powerbook that had a logic board problem (immediately replaced by the kind guys at the genius bar) this is the biggest problem I've had.

Anyone know why this happened?

I've had that happen a couple of times. It's happened when a network share flakes out before. I also once tried to preview a DIVX movie and apparently the QuickTime codec I had installed was bugged.

Mac not MAC. Dock not DOC.

I've seen the Finder crash but it usually re-launches on its own, or I can just launch it again from the Dock. It's NEVER disappeared from the Dock, it can't be removed normally. A logout or restart is probably the best solution if you can't get it to launch.

jmolin8808... your first post here and already you're reporting miracles. My occasional experience with Finder weirdness is more like Apfhex describes...

You done some weird hacking on your OS?

Ok, this is weird.

This is my first time posting on MacNN, and I have no idea who the above "josephseliong" is. Has someone been using my account? I did a search for my posts and was shocked to see someone posting as me.

I don't (and have never) owned a powerbook. Plus, I'd never say "@sshole" but instead, "arsehole". So, bugger off mate, don't use my account.

p/s: has anyone noticed that even though it says "josephseliong" joined in July 2006, the post was made in April 2006? Weirdness abounds...

It could be due to a flaky third party contextual menu add-in.
