Universal Scanning Program?

I have an HP PSC 1510 All in One printer. It prints fine with my new MacBook, but I'd love to be able to scan stuff in. All the software on the CD they gave me is non-universal, so it doesn't do me much good, and most of it is crap to boot.

Is there a cheap, or perhaps free, universal program that will allow me to scan?

The non universal stuff should work fine. I use my canon software and photoshop on my imac core duo without problems.

also you may want to try image capture which is built in to mac os x though I don't think it will work.

Take a look at VueScan, http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html. It lists the PSC 1500 as a compatible scanner. Don't know about the all in one 1510. Give it a try. It's very good.

Image Capture will most likely work and it's free.

I was just about to post a thread on this...

Having the same problems here...

VueScan is not universal yet as listed here: http://www.hamrick.com/

Though it says it works with Intel-based macs, it hoses up on my Core Solo mini.

I think this might be due to the drivers supplied with the scanner because the scanning software from HP does the same thing, called "Image Zone."

The scanner does show up in the Image Capture device browser, but fails to connect.

Again this leads me to think its the drivers causing the problems.

If only I knew a little more about how the drivers work...
