Just a note, the download is named RealPlayer GOLD (even when you download the FREE version), but it does contain the FREE player.
God I hate the Real site, there is far to much misdirection to divert you from the free player.

Damnit, why doesn't the auto-update feature realize there is an update available?
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Mine did, but all it does is take you to the download page where you have to select a mirror.

Hmmm, strange. I had to do it manually.

For me, the updater tried to download and update but crashed. Nice.

After telling RealPlayer to check for updates, it found the new version and then proceeded to stop responding. I killed it, restarted it. If found the update, installed and it's working fine now.

I like RealPlayer. I think the folks at Real have written a very good OS X program that takes advantage of a lot of the underlying core technologies and the user experience is very good. Compare to the formerly available Windows Media Player for OS X; the difference is like night and day.
