I am trying to autor my first dvd in dvd studio pro on my powermac g5. the project is finished and the simulations work perfectly. however, when i go to click burn, there is just a message box saying "formatting successful. formatting finished".

I have a blank dvd-r in the drive and i have done the build/format. what the f^&% is wrong with it. is the program corupted or is my newbishness making me miss a vital step??

thanks.
any help much appreciated.

just to figure out what's up, try doing the build (just build) option. Pick some known location to save to. After you've saved, go to DVD player, and open up the VideoTS folder created (DVDPlayer has an option to do that), and make sure it plays properly.

If so, go back to DVD studio pro. click format. look through the options and make sure the "test burn" checkbox isn't selected. The name is something like that.... I don't remember exactly the name, but basically it's to test the burn to make sure the drive will work so you don't make any coasters. once you've confirmed that the checkbox isn't selected, also check the burn source, to make sure it's pointing to the directory that contains (I THINK) the VideoTS folder you built. then try burning. If it still doesn't work, you can still burn the DVD data to a dvd - and it will play in MOST (if not all) DVD players - using the OS's standard burning Utils (finder/disk utility, whichever you prefer)

if the build didn't work correctly, then I'm at a loss. sorry.

I did the build thing and the video ts folder plays perfectly in dvd player.

when i go to do format, it only allows me to select the hard-drive as an output source, should i be able to select the burner?

Yeah... if it won't let you select the burner there's something wrong.

Does the DVD drive show up in the SystemProfiler?

[Please remember that our rules explicitly prohibit "noise" markers like "Help, Urgent!" in thread titles. It may be urgent to you, but it won't get you a response any faster, and it clutters up thread titles with words that carry essentially no meaning.
