I was trying to convert a few aiff files into mp3s for my cell phone last night when I found out my old standby (Audion) is broken on the new architecture. I need to encode at 32 -48 kps for the phone (RAZR). I tried using iTunes before, but for some reason the phone didn't like those files.

Thanks.

try Max. Very nice little program for high-quality CD ripping or transcoding, and free and universal. (and i don't have anything to do with the program, despite sharing my name with it )

I tried it last night. I'd select the file then it'd pop up and close two windows rapidly and there was no trace of a converted file anywhere on my computer.

Thanks, though.

I believe the iTunes-LAME encoder plug-in for iTunes still works on the Intel Macs.

It bypasses the iTunes encoder completely, so it's worth a shot. If iTunes tagging is the culprit, then it might still screw it up. Worth a try, anyway.
