I've been enjoying OSS 3D for a few months now. Unfortunately it took me this long to find out what a CPU hog it was.

http://www.subband.com/downloads/

WITHOUT OSS 3D installed...

PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0GHz:
iTunes NOT PLAYING: CPU usage - .2 - 2%
iTunes PLAYING: CPU usage - 2 - 5%

Mac Mini Dual Core 1.6GHz:
iTunes NOT PLAYING: CPU usage - .2 - 2%
iTunes PLAYING: CPU usage - 2 - 5%

WITH OSS 3D at version 1.5.1:

PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0GHz:
iTunes NOT PLAYING: CPU usage - 10 - 20%
iTunes PLAYING: CPU usage - 18 - 34%

Mac Mini Dual Core 1.6GHz:
iTunes NOT PLAYING: CPU usage - 12 - 20%
iTunes PLAYING: CPU usage - 22 - 34%

Now on my friends TiBook at 800MHz with OSS 3D itunes takes 50% of his CPU which is insane.

Why would this plug in take even .1% CPU if nothing is playing?

Anyone else seeing similar results (you have to uninstall it to test it not just turn it off).

To make matters worse here is the extremely confusing and unhelpful email from the companies support team. In its entirety:

"Here's my specs:

on iTunes w/ OSS 3D (without Equalizer): 28% cpu
without OSS 3D: 10%
with OSS 3D (Equalizer on): 32.8%

problem: Equalizer - 24 band.

Machine: Dual 2 ghz g5.

Hope for the future: optimizations altivec.

Dmitry"

I just tried this program and I have to say that it's got nothing on VolumeLogic. Seriously, VolumeLogic is amazing.

I find that things have dramatically worsened with the 1.5.1 update. Forced to uninstall it, OSS3D having locked up my entire system. I actually had to perform a hard reboot of my iMac.

Tech support is trying to tell me that I have the About window open to see such high results but I absolutely do not.

Also the techies CPU usage is just as high so I don't see what he is talking about.
