I have installed Camino, Google Earth and Thunderbird, however, when I want to run the app it mounts a disk image. Did I not completely install them? How can I get this to not happen?

What do you mean by "installed"? If you just drag the icon to the dock it creates a link to the app. You have to drag the app to your Applications folder and then drag it from your apps folder into your dock.

If I drag it to the apps folder, will it still mount an image?

To install:
1. Open the disk image file "blah.dmg". A disk will appear on the desktop.
2. Open this disk
3. Drag the application from the disk to your Applications folder
4. Eject the disk
5. Throw away the disk image
If you do this correctly, a disk image will not mount when you launch the application.
