Just got a new MBP 1.83 and 1 gig RAM, bought by my company , and love it to death. Works perfectly and also Boot Camp running Windows XP without problem. Have set up multiple email accounts, but CAN'T GET THE $)$#@$ thing to work with the company email server!!!!!

It is driving me nuts. Have an IBM laptop, where my email settings work without problems, but on my MBP, I can only send out, but can't retrieve! The settings are IDENTICAL to my IBM laptop, but to no avail. CAN"T RETRIEVE EMAILS from my server. My IT guy is also stumped!

All my other accounts on the MBP work fine, my mac.com and a bunch of other web-based email accounts.

It is a POP settting! Connection Doctor shows the connection to the server as OK. But a bit strange when I am viewing the ACTIVITY VIEWER, it does not show anything for my company's server.

PLEASE HELP--------

FYI, please leave out pleas for help, both from the title and from content. It won't make people respond with any more diligence than if you leave it out. A calm, but highly accurate description of the problem (including steps taken, error messages encountered, and how what's happening differs from what you expect to happen) will net the best responses.

It's kind of hard to help with the really small amount of information you've given.

About the only thing I can think of is to check the port number under the Advanced tab. Sometimes they set this to something other than the default, and you have to change it to get it to work.

Also, see if the "Use SSL" check box needs to be checked or not. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, depending on how the server is set up.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Well.. the first thing I'd post if I was you is what kind of email connection are you trying to use. POP, IMAP, MS crap... and then what email client are you using on the Windows machine.

I'll be willing to bet your trying to connect to an exchange server. If so just use Entourage and save yourself the trouble.

Apologies to all for using 'expressive icons' but I was getting really frustrated. And CharlesS, I followed your advice and checked the port number in Advanced Tab and changed it. AND lo and behold. IT WORKS!

Thanks a million.
