so i came across (downloaded) some music files. they are in .ogg format, something i had never seen before. i want to ply them in itunes....might anyone have any suggestions to how this could be acomplished?

There's an iTunes plugin for ogg, I think. Search macupdate.com.

ok, i see that. now i am wondering if there is a way i can convert the ogg to mp3...for free

Try the Advanced->Convert selection to [whatever is the current import format] command in iTunes.

In iTunes, under the Advanced menu, there should be a "Convert To (whatever your preferred format is)" item. You can change the import format in the Advanced tab of the iTunes preferences. I've used that with the QuickTime Components and it worked perfectly.

Keep in mind that converting Ogg to MP3 will degrade the sound quality — though whether or not you'll notice is a subjective thing, of course.
