I came from a PC not too long ago and I use the "comment" line for MSN extensively for subtle messages. I'm not talking about adding a comment next to the name line, but another line after that.

Neither Adium or MSN Messenger for Mac has it (or maybe I haven't found it) and I'm wondering if anyone has found anything on this. Thanks.

Since it's specific to the MSN-service, it's hard to elegantly include such options into service-agnostic clients such as Adium. You can try more specific clients such as Mercury or aMSN.

I'm not sure what you mean by `comment line'. If you mean screen name by this, of course you can change it with Adium.

Go to the preferences > Accounts > [MSN Account] > Personal. Then change the screen name.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

No, it's a separate line that you can put messages in. I assume this was added because everyone on MSN customizes their name with inane phrases and stupid ascii art so you can't really tell which is which of your friends.

Incidentally this is why I love Adium and Proteus ability to let _me_ choose their names, while their "message" rightly goes to a secondary line.

So this MSN feature adds a sort of subtitle to the user-defined nickname? Similar to iChat's "online" custom status messages (which incidentally Adium also supports)? I like that feature for AIM, for MSN would be just as nice (but they need to add custom *away* messages first—unless they already have that and I just don't know about it).

All I know is, the PC version of msn messenger allows a comment line to be added along w/ whatever name you choose to be. O well.

I dl'ed aMSn and i only use that for iSight only. The program is a bit laggy and cluttered, hopefully the new version will be better, but works well.
