I use the Apple built in Dictionary all the time (right click on words to check spelling and look up meanings). Just recently, when I right click on a word, it launches but the area where it tells the meaning is blank. (The spelling still works if I right click on a word).

Are there any maintence tasks that I can run to fix this?

Thanks to all who answer.

No. It opens (launches) but the area that displays the word meaning is blank. What I have to do is to delete one or two of the last letters of the word which brings up a bunch of words that are close to the one I want. Then, if I scroll down to the word I want and hit return, it either brings up the meaning or the screen is blank. If I keep messing around like this, eventually the meaning will come up.

I wonder if I should re-install the dictonary app? Or delete the preference file?

Ok, I tried the dictionary in the admin account and it worked fine. So, I just deleted the dictionary preference file from my library in my account and it also now works.

Removing the dictionary preference file from the library in my account fixed the problem. This thread can be closed.
