Hi there,
I have just upgraded my 12" PB to 10.4.6 from 10.3.9 and I find that I cannot open up the old mail messages in my 'Inbox' in Tiger after the upgrade. I get the following message when I try to open up the messages:

'The message from xxxxxxx(whoever...) concerning ( whatever was in the subject box) has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.'

All the old mail messages in my inbox open up with the same message ...
New mail which has arrived after the upgrade is OK.

I did back up my old system (10.3.9) to an external firewire hard drive before I upgraded - could I retrieve these messages from the mail folder in the 'Users' folder on the external drive?
Or are they all lost forever?
Some were pretty impotant! What should I have done?
I would appreciate any advice - thanks in advance.
best

That is what I do everytime I upload to a newer Mac OS release -or I need to reinstall the Mac OS X-, just copy such Mail folder from my User's Library. I don't want to get such bunch of MBs downloading everytime I update-reinstall the Mac OS

So yes, you should be fine copying the 'Mail' folder containing all the Mail stuff from 10.3.9 into your User's Library under Tiger. Once you open Mail.app the messages have to be there.

The Mailbox format changed between 10.3 and 10.4, so you cannot simply copy the folders to your ~/Library/Mail folder and expect them to work. Instead, you need to perform an import (File menu -> Import MailBoxes...).
