I need some help....

I recently transferred the bulk of my iTunes collection to an external HD. I managed to mess up my library (too many duplicate songs) so I decided to re-install iTunes. (I'm in OS 10.4.6 here) I deleted the iTunes application and downloaded the latest version from the Apple website.

My problem is that when I try to re-install the application, I can get through the script until I have the option to select either an easy or a custom install but then the installer tells me that there is nothing to install and quits. I assume there is something on my system telling the installer that it is still already installed but am not sure what that would be...

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

Chris

Log on as admin user:

System Preferences->Accounts->Log-In Items->iTunes Helper

Launches at startup by default. You need to cancel this by clicking on it, then selecting (+/-), reboot, check it's no longer active, then run the iTunes installer.

Assuming you just want to start from scratch, you should delete the files in USER->Music->iTunes

Leave the iTunes Music folder, though, just in case there's anything still in there.

There was actually no need to delete the iTunes application, since it doesn't store any of your custom settings or library.

You might need to go to Library -> Receipts and delete the files that have iTunes in the name in order to reinstall with the iTunes installer.
