I'm thinking about getting a new MacBook, but I would like not to have to use Microsoft office through Rosetta. Is there any date or time frame when it'll be intel based? Or is this something that won't be bothered with. I'd rather get the version that runs the best so I'm worried I'll buy it soon but by the time school start they'll have it fixed.

If you can can test a MacBook in person do it. I gave Office a try and it worked just fine. Booted up slow the first time but I don't let that get in my way. It is what happens after it is booted that is important.

I thought MS said the universal binary would be a free upgrade anyway. I could be wrong about that.

You are wrong about that. The current revision of Office won't be released as Universal Binary.

Doesn't really note a timeline. I know I can get MS Office through my company for $20. Maybe you can find a similar deal, buy now and then again when the new version comes out.
