When I import the same jpeg from my jump drive, iPhoto does not recognize it as a duplicate, and just goes ahead and imports it as a new photo. I now have multiple copies of the same file. (I thought iPhoto would recognize the dupes and allow me to not import them)

Is there a reason why iPhoto sometimes recognizes dupes - and sometimes not?

You can try iPhoto Diet to eliminate the dupes. Can't answer the question why iPhoto does not recognize, but this would be a way to eliminate those extra photos.

Thanks guys. I am still puzzled as to why sometimes iPhoto reconizes dupes - and sometimes it doesn't.
