SO I called adobe today to try to move my license from Windows to Mac OSX. The sales rep (the division that handels cross platform) said that I would have to upgrade from CS to CS2. Well I am not so sure about this as he could just be hunting for more commision.

Any ideas? is this guy trying to rip me off? I already email Adobe, but I expect that to take a couple days if not several.

Adobe will try to rip you off at any chance they get.

I kind of feel the same way.

However, does anyone know Adobe's official policy on this?

Didn't an answer direct from Adobe give you Adobe's official stance?

Adobe still hasn't written me back. I think that I will simply buy a copy of Apertature in the future, and use GIMP. Considering Adobe is one of the seemingly less ethical companies after this expierence.

Truthfully, GiMP is no replacement for Photoshop.

I seem to recall that CS2 does indeed have the Transfer Activation option built-in if needed, whereas, CS does not. With that said, I see no reason why Adobe couldn't manually make this work for you though.

I did speak with Adobe, but the department that handels cross platform is sales. So ofcourse I have a hard time trusting the sales persons word that I have to upgrade to CS2 (Which adds hardly any usefull features).

they still haven't e-mailed me back. Maybe my email just by random chance got overlooked.

I've been playing around with GIMP, by no means is it nearly as good as Adobes stuff, but i think I can get by with it. After all I am dual booting windows, but i just figured i should have photoshop on my MAC OSX install. Even if rossetta will slow it down.

CS2 is a great upgrade if you are into photography at all.

If you want to use Gimp, have a look at Gimpshop which emulates Photoshops menu layout and shortcuts. There is also another alternative out called Pixel, which supports 16bit, CMYK and HDR, and has a good responsive developer as far as I can tell.

Dude you paid for the license. It's not as if there aren't ways to cross grade without the hassle. Like... are you in a shop or something or just you being a person? As well are you using a PPC Mac or an Intel one? I'd at least wait for CS3 before I shelled out money for the suite again, it's going to be out in about half a year, and it'll actually run well on the Intel hardware!
