n00b question...

Does Garageband work with the MacBook's digital optical audio input? I tried setting it in the prefs and choosing a real instrument, but get nothing via that input.

I'm thinking I've just set the thing up incorrectly but I'm not sure. Using the built-in mic works fine. Also, I know I'm getting signal via the optical audio input, because it shows up fine as active in the Sys Prefs.

OK. If not a MacBook, what are people using on their MacBook Pros or Power Macs?

you have to change the settings in garagebands prefs...it took a good 20 min till i figured it out last week.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

Thanks, but which ones. I tried fiddling with the System Prefs and the GarageBand prefs and didn't come across the right combo. I'll try again later though.
