I recently updated iTunes to 6.0.4 via Software Update. Now, when I launch iTunes, I get the license agreement. When I click "agree", the iTunes application menu bar appears, but then I get a dialogue box saying, "The iTunes application could not be opened. There is not enough memory available."

I've deleted all the plist files in my user home directory. That ended up letting iTunes run the welcome/set-up wizard, but when it came time to go to the library, I got the same error message.

I've tried to delete iTunes completely and reinstall with the a new copy from Apple's site. The installer takes me to a customized install, where I can choose from three options, iTunes being one. But they are all greyed out. If I do the simple installation, I'm told there is nothing available to install.

Wha' happened? Does anyone have any ideas and/or fixes?

How much free space do you have remaining on your hard drive?

How much RAM do you have installed on your system?

If RAM isn't the issue, uninstall iTunes and download the latest version from versiontracker.com, NOT from Software Update or Apple

I've got 704 MB on the system (256+256+128+64) so that shouldn't be an issue. It's an older GigE G4 with upgrades, but it's always been a real champ in running recent apps and Tiger.

I'll try the Version Tracker download when I get home from work. I didn't know it was available there (and if I'd stopped to think about it, I would've expected to just be redirected to Apple's website).

Thanks for the help!

Problem fixed!

I realised that long ago I'd installed a version of Front Row with Andrew Escobar's enabler. The version was old, and I began to wonder if the new install of iTunes (which is supposed to fix some FR related issues) had biffed things up there. So I deleted the FR app and used Pacifist to reinstall the appropriate bevel services.

But even then the iTunes installer still would not install the application (see the problems listed above), even when I used the copy downloaded from VersionTracker. So, time for Pacifist again! Extracted the iTunes package and installed via Pacifist. Problem solved.

Bizarre all around.
