Hoping someone can help me since I have called aol and gone to the mac store for help....... I set up my mail osx to get my gmail and aol mail. GMAIL works perfect but aol mail i am having problems..the first week it was fine but now my aol mail has a pie locking shape next to it when I open and then it gives me the message "The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "imap.aim.com" on port 993 timed out."
The only way I have found it to work is if I dl the AOL program and have it open......then my apple mail will work as well! ANY HELP or advice will be great!!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
try switching to port 995 for your outgoing server, not 993 (preferences)... also make sure you have some sort of SSL authentication enabled too (so that you have to enter your password the first time you send mail, and just save it like that)
Lizz did you try? Do you even know what I'm talking about?
My output mail server is 587......then under advanced options I changed it to 995 like you said...still will not work! I used AOL setup assistant to set up this account but also tried it manually following aols directions
