Severe iPhoto problem with intelligent albums

I'm running the latest version (6.0.4) under 10.4.6 on a MacBook. There are just over 10 GB or 6000 images in my library. Most images are seven or eight megapixels.

On a vacation trip to Rome, several people imported their images into my iPhoto. I rated my images and created intelligent albums to sort them in. No problems so far. The camera used was a Sony Cybershot 7.1 Megapixels.

Yesterday one of my friends rated his images, I created intelligent albums and when I now click on one of his (Philipp) albums iPhoto hangs up. Also, iPhoto doesn't count the images in my albums anymore. The camera he used was a Canon EOS 20D.

I recreated the image cache, thumbsnails database and deleted the iPhoto prefs file, with no success.

Anyone han an idea how to get it to work properly again?
