which is better? i prefer apple just because apple makes os x and you figure in-house software would be the most reliable. however recently i have had many of my dvd burns fail verification (although the disc seems to be fine with all the data burned). 3 in a row actually with the osx burn.
i tried burning the same dvd in toast and had no problems at all. i got this copy of toast for pretty cheap from the store but i never used it until just now so i'm pretty clueless on its burning efficiency/reliability. i'm wondering if there are people out there that strictly burn with toast rather than the in-house osx burn?

I only use toast. I find it to be much faster.

With Tiger, Finder disc burning got much faster, since the system no longer makes a disc image of what you want to burn and then burns that. Instead, it's live now. I just wish I could tell it not to verify the disc, since that's the most time consuming part on a mondern machine. Use Toast when you need to burn multiple or incomplete sessions. Other than that, I don't use it.

I guess I haven't used finder to burn a disk in a long time. That image creation was what always annoyed me.

You can cancel the verification without any consequences.
I never understood the verification anyway, either way you have a working disc or you don't. It should be bleeding obvious which is which after actually trying it.

I always use Toast too, when I burn a disc with iTunes, sometimes that Disc just works on selected CD players only, I mean, I can Hear it on my car's CD player but I can't on my home entertainment system.. so, It's kind of weird but only happens with iTunes burning option.... thoug

And verification is "actually trying it". It's better to try the disc right away than doing so in 6 months when you need it to restore a backuped file.

It tries it on both toast and finder when I burn. Says they are good then refuses to mount them... so I am at a loss.... how can they verify good and then not even mount on the desktop?

Windows XP licensed disc burning technology from Adaptec and it never makes a coaster. Maybe Apple should license from Roxio, or else we could continue living with sub standard burning.

I've never had Tiger burning fail. Only time I had Finder buring fail was back in Jaguar I think, when I dropped something on my iBook, causing the CD drive to skip.
