I recently bought the Plextor px-tv402u which came with EyeTv 2. I really like it so far, but one thing really concerns me. When running EyeTV 2 ALL of my RAM gets 'eaten' up.

So, when I start EyeTV I usually have anywhere between 500MB - 1GB of RAM available. But after a little while of using EyeTV, I end up with only 25MB.

I checked to see what was using it in Top and Activity Monitor and couldn't quite tell... it said that EyeTV was using about 200MB, but when when I quit EyeTV all of my (expectedly) available ram re-appears.

I have 2.5GB or ram in my G5 2.7.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I wrote EyeTv and they said that it was just the way OS X worked, but I've never seen any other app do this.

BTW, I do not have the live stream cache in memory - I have it written to disk, or at least that's what I set the preference to.

Elgato is correct. Unused memory is wasted memory. OS X is behaving normally when it does this as far as I know. My eyetv has always done this.

My g/f's eyeTV did this too, but she didn't have enough RAM and her computer would page like crazy.

I'm currently recording an HDTV stream on my Intel Mac Mini (2GB RAM, 8GB live buffer), and it's only taking 89.7 MB of memory.
