I did do a backup and I now need it!!! My HD packed it in a few weeks ago and after I drag and drop all the music folders from the DVD, itunes spends a lot of time importing them and all the songs, artists, albums and album art are listed in the library, but when I try to play them, I have to manually show itunes where the song is located. There is a grey exclamation point beside 19 Gb of music. Is there a simple way for itunes to now "see" the songs?

maybe go into your user folder, go to music, then itunes then itunes music. get info on this file (make sure this is the 19g folder) and drag this folder into the itunes window when itunes is open. when i say maybe i think this is how i did this once before. you may want to wait until someone else verifies this, but yes it can be done.

never manually attempt to manipulate files in your iTunes Music Folder. Allow iTunes to manage everything for you from inside iTunes. Example - drag any track or muisc file from a CD into iTunes' Source List and it will import it, add it to your library, and make a playlist of your selection all at once.

Also, under iTunes' File Menu > 'Add Folder to Library'. Navigate to your iTunes Music Folder, select the Folder (this will grab everything in it) and click Okay or whatever.

This will add anything in the Folder that is NOT ALREADY in your library.

See my site for my preferred iTunes prefs.
