okay so i've had my white macbook for about a month now and am completely happy with its features. But, there's one problem bugging me and would appreciate any worthy help.

1. when logging into AIM i sometimes (but most times) get "unexpectedly disconnected". This also goes for iChat. In rare situations it will work, but like i said, it unexpectedly disconnects so much that it comes to a point where i'm pissed off...

2. Adium for some reason connects/disconnects like 10 or more times that i can't log in until 10 minutes later...

First, i thought it could be a network problem since i'm on wireless connection, so i tried my neighbor's wireless connection, but same thing.

Safari works perfectly.

so, if anyone has the same problem or knows the solution, please share~

thanks in advance.

I had this problem with Adium. Someone advised I turn off Speech Recognition, and that fixed it.

I have a Macbook as well, all of those chatting clients work perfectly well for me. Might I make a suggestion, and reinstall the OS? I'm a exwindows users, and that seems to works for windows. Not sure for mac, as I just got one. Just my two cents.

Well, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who has this problem, but I've not found any solutions yet. My problems seem to be more severe...

1. iChat won't even launch and since I removed everything to do with it using the "find" in the finder, it won't reinstall, there are "issues" with the install and it just stops. It's oh so helpful error message. It just says: "There were errors installing iChat, please try again." I try again, no luck.

2. Adium crashes when I launch it, so I can't even put in any information into the preferences.
Here's the "exception log" from Adium.

3. Skype *does* work, so it seems to me that there's something wrong with my AIM since that's the thing in common with both ichat and adium? I checked my personal "address book" entry and there were two AIM accounts there, so I deleted that, hoping that that would fix it, but nope. I'm at a loss right now and this is most inconvenient because I'm away from home and want to be able to chat with my friends dammit!!!

I created a new user account on my spiffy new white macbook and launched adium and it works so far. iChat still wouldn't install, so I don't know what's going on there. Anyone have any suggestions as to why it would work in one account and not another. I'm trashing my preferences when I delete adium from my regular account. When I search for ichat on my computer Accounts.prefPane comes up a result, but I didn't think it would be a good idea to trash that. Suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!!

There is no standalone iChat AV installer. You'll have to do an Archive & Install of the operating system.

I was using the ichat.pkg that is in the main Library->Receipts that I found when I searched my machine for iChat. Now I just have to figure out how to do an Archive & Install when I only have 3 GBs left on my hard drive....

That is just a receipt for the installation, not an actual installer package.

Thank you!

I just don't know if going through the whole hassel of backingup (which should be done anyways), doing a fresh install and then transferring the databack over is worth my time to fix this issue. I guess it's the only way to fix the problem that I can see though. I just don't have enough room to do an archive and install because I have so much data.... at least, that's my understanding.

I backed up my data, and reinstalled mac osx and then used migration assistant to pull everything back over. I thought I was good to go. But no! I created a new account, deleted my old account and then dragged things in manually from the backup and then I was good to go Turns out that my address book is corrupted and that was affecting the chat systems for some reason. My file "ABPerson.skIndexInverted" would get three numbers appended to the end. So now, I can chat on Adium, iChat and Skype, but I cannot open Addressbook without it crashing on me when I try to do anything. I tried using Address Book exporter, but it hangs when it gets to the exporting part. So now I've gone from not being able to chat to not being able to access my contacts. I've tried manually wiping out the address book preferences and the application support in my home directory library and putting the files back but no luck. Am I SOL because I don't have any way of getting the files out, even though I can see the individual address contacts in a file called "meta data"? Frustrating....
