I just got my first mac, a black macbook, two days ago, so this might be an example of my current mac-retardedness. What am I missing here? I get 2.0.3 rc7 for intel chips off their ftp. Download it, install it...but when I run it, it says I need X11. Isn't X11 already built into Tiger? Am I going about this the wrong way? Thanks in advance for your help.

BTW, every time I use this thing I'm constantly geeking out about how cool OS X is. I just bluetooth sync'ed my phone and pda and started transferring files. You know how much of an f'ing pain that is to do in XP?!

X11 is the UNIX windowing system that the official release of OpenOffice needs to run. A much better choice is NeoOffice. It's OpenOffice wrapped in an OS X interface. In addition to looking more Mac-like, it integrates with OS X much better. Here's the link...

...but if you DO still want to use OOo, you can install X11 from the restore DVD that came with your computer. It's not installed by default, much like the developer tools (which might be fun to install while you're in there).
