I am looking at getting Aperture to use with my incresing demand of photo work. I have a year old PowerBook with the 1.67 G4 and a Gig of ram. Does anyone else have this model and if so how does Aperture run on it?
Thanks

Well, I run it on a 1.25GHz PowerBook G4 with 1GB of RAM, and honestly, it's sluggish. Now, I think Aperture streamlines my workflow so much that in the end, I'm still better off.
I think that a large part of the slowdowns is RAM. Aperture is a huge memory hog, and really benefits from as much RAM as you can give it.

I have a 1.67 with 2 GB of RAM and Aperture runs acceptably (especially since the 1.1.2 update and 10.4.7) for field use -- simple edits for a few hundred photos.
I wouldn't really want it to be my *only* machine -- performance is a lot better for all-day use on my Quad with a 7800 GT.

How well do you really like the program?? I have been using Adobe Lightroom for the past couple months. It is decent but Aperture really looks like a better program.

I like it; I've used it for the last 6 months and rarely go into Photoshop. That's not to say it does everything Photoshop does -- but in general unless I'm planning on printing something, Apertures adjustments are good enough.
I haven't used Lightroom a whole lot as of yet -- I played with it a bit in the first betas, but haven't done much with it since January.

I'd agree with that. I run it with 1GB and I can definitely tell that it runs out of RAM, especially if I have other things running simultaneously.
