This is SOOO annoying.
Background: I have a new MacBook replacing my prior PowerBook, both running Tiger.
My wife has a PowerBook, running Tiger.
My daughter is on a G4 Tower, running Tiger.
Scenario 1: My wife is currently at a hotel in Norway.
I was at a hotel in Atlanta.
We were able to video iChat effortlessly with very smooth video.
Scenario 2: I arrive home (US), and my wife is still in Norway.
All attempts to video iChat with the same computers results in "I did not respond" messages.
Scenario 3: I try lots of different settings on my router, opening all ports 1024-20000, setting up iChat as a special app, turning on gaming, and so on.
Scenario 4: My wife tries instead to connect to my daughter's G4 Tower... that works! And she is behind the same router that my MacBook is behind. So, its evidently not the router. However, the video frame rate from my wife's computer to the G4 Tower is way slow/choppy. But the frame rate from the G4 Tower to my wife's machine is nice and smooth.
Scenario 5: In the past, when my wife was in Los Angeles and I still had my PowerBook, we were consistently unable to connect our two PowerBooks, getting the same error. But she could connect without problem to the G4 Tower.
So, evidently there is SOMETHING different about my G4 Tower and my MacBook that allows it to connect. Other than the G4 Tower being slower... too slow for it to support multi-way video chat... its not clear what that difference would be.
But the issue is not just with my MacBook, because we were able to connect great with the MacBook when I was at a hotel. So, its some combination of my home network or my home provider (Verizon FiOS) and my MacBook that doesn't cause problems for the G4 Tower.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks!

You did? I just searched back through your last 300 posts to finally find this thread where you were having the problem, someone replied about firewall settings (which I have already followed per the above and seem not to be the issue) and someone gave a pointer to another forum with lots of advice, you replied that "that" solved it, someone asked "what solved it", and you never gave any more details.
So, what's the way to fix this?
Any help greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
