Hi,

I currently have iPhoto 2.0.1 installed on my machine. I'd like to use iPhoto 6, because I've heard that is very fast for large photo collections. Howerver, I don't want to have to pay $79 for a program that is supposed to come installed with the Mac OS.

Must I pay for iPhoto 6? Is there a free version?

Thanks in advance.

No, there is no free version unless you buy a new Mac, unfortunately. Just out of curiousity, what version of the OS are you running?

I'm using 10.3.9 on an iBook G3 800 MHz with 640 MB, 37gb drive.....yes, it's a bit out dated, but it gets the job done. I've already set aside some money to buy a new laptop when the old one dies. I'm thinking about getting the MacBook 1.83GHz.

Since I'm on a limited budget, I think I may not get the iLife subscription and simply wait until I buy the new computer (could be next week, could be next year).

Are there any free programs that anyone would recommend? I like how easy it is to import my photos into the computer, so I'd like to continue doing that. Would Google's Picasa let me easily organize lots of photos? (I have a photo collection of about 15,000 pictures...not a ton, but enough to slow down iPhoto 2.0 )

Thanks!

Picasa is a Windows-only application.

What's that supposed to mean?
iLife is included with every new Mac, not every copy of Mac OSX.

Actually, that's a ton. I would simply get the upgrade and be done with it...

Or, you could get a deal on a G4 Mac mini. They should be going for under $300 now on eBay. If you need a backup Mac, it's a pretty decent choice especially considering the software you get with it.

iLife is not a subscription.
iLife is software you buy and then use as long as you want.

If you had low moral standards like myself, you could download one of the larger iPhoto updates and extract the app from the update package.

Of course you would have to be a socially aberrant, amoral, and a downright bad, bad boy.
