Situations have developed that require my acquiring Microsoft Office. I'm a registered owner of Word 98 (yes, from 8 years ago! - dug the box/CD out of the attic) and after scouring MSFT's site was stunned to see that it looks like I actually qualify for the upgrade price to buy Office 2004.

Another doc on their support site says how to upgrade if you don't have a previous version installed, but that doc only mentions the CD for Office v.X, not a prior-to-that-component...

Nice liberal upgrade path, but has anyone actually done this successfully? I'm thinking I should eat the sales tax and buy the upgrade at my local Apple Store instead of online just in case of upgrade woes.

Thoughts appreciated.

The student edition might be cheaper and easier to install than an "upgrade" edition. sam
