Ok so i installed VLC the other day and it worked perfectly. today I try and use it and it just bounces once in the dock and then stops. doesn't launch doesn't tell me anything. I then download mplayer, same thing, bounces once and then doesnt do anything. Finally I download the divx plugin for quicktime in order to use that. the installed just tells me an error occurred and i should try to install again. no matter how many times i try it keeps doing it. help!

Yes I did try restarting multiple times to no avail. I think I will honestly just try reinstalling OSX since I just got this computer a few days ago I really don't have anything important on it. One question tho, does the OSX installation disk that apple gave me with my macbook come with iLife and the preinstalled software that the macbook came with or will I lose all that?

The software restore disks that came with your computer include an installer with iLife and all the other bundled software. You'd have to run this installer after the system installation (afair).

Open up console.app and then run VLC or mplayer and then see what gets output - it might explain it.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

I just ended up reformatting and reinstalling. It was fast and easy. I already had all my files stored on my network so I didn't lose anything more than maybe an hour of my time or so
