Can't boot hard drive after running Techtool Pro

After running Techtool Pro Volume Check and Optimization, I can no longer boot from my hard drive! The error message I received is:

launchd: can't exec /bin/sh for single user: No such file or directory

Here are the details I know:

Techtool Pro version 4.1.1

Mac OS Tiger

Ran Techtool Pro from the bootable CD

Disk Utility would not complete, so it never made a diagnosis.

I can't free up any disc space, since I can't even access the hard drive. Also, I know I still have pleanty of space - at least 50 GB.

I've tried the archive and install option a couple of times and it stops and gives me an error message: "There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again."

I can't access the edrive, the hard drive - nothing. I have no idea what Techtool did to my computer. I've read the manual and I just don't understand what is going on.

I've just had the exact same experience. I've run all the tools on TTP and DiskWarrior to no avail.

Have you found a solution (short of wiping the drive)?

Sounds as though TTP damaged the OS X install. DiskWarrior won't be able to fix that, most likely.

The general solution is to do an Archive and Install of Mac OS X -- and then stick to DiskWarrior for disk maintenance. Every other utility on the market seems to occasionally cause damage.

Since the OS X install is failing, I'd try these things, in this order:
1. Use Disk Utility's First Aid tab to repair the disk. See if OS X will install now. If not,
2. Buy and run DiskWarrior to repair the disk. See if OS X will install now. If not,
3. Get ahold of another Mac OS X disc to make sure that's not the problem. If you still can't install, then
4. Back up your data using Target Disk Mode and another Mac, then erase your hard disk and start over.

Thanks for the help. I'll give that a try. I'm bummed to hear about TTP, I thought it was the "good" utility suite vs. the "evil" Norton which hashed many a Classic disk of mine back in the day! DiskWarrior it is.
