I hope I'm explaining this correctly.I had Microsoft Word on my Mac. I deleted my Word files from my document folder and removed Microsoft Office from my Mac by dragging the application to the trash. I then reinstalled Word but when I click on files the last few Word documents I opened still appeared in the list although of course when I click on them I get a message that says they cannot be found. How can I actually remove the file names from the list in Word?

Open a few other Word documents so the old one are pushed off the list? Don't bother? Delete the Word-preferences in ~/Library/Preferences?

You didn't delete the Word preferences, which is where that is stored. (NO application these days is supposed to store ANY preferences in the applications folder!)

Anyhow, if you turn off the Recently Used Files List checkbox in Word -> Preferences -> General, it will forget the recently used items. If you turn it back on, it will NOT remember the items that were in the list before.
