Ghost folders

	When I do a Spotlight search for a particular folder, an older version of the folder comes up with the path: [myname]/volumes This is a folder I have since renamed, and the contents of which have been greatly modified. But it seems to be taking up real space. What is it? Can I just delete it without affecting the current folder? I ask because the folder is several GBs in size and contains two years of work! Also, is it always ok to delete folders called "iPod Photo Cache" ?
