Im fairly new to final cut pro but have been using for a few months now.

I used to log then capture from my tapes until a few days ago i found and easier way.
I just captured a reel and used dv start/stop detect to break it up into segments but when i go to play back a piece, the audio is a few seconds out of sync with the video.

what is going on? how do i fix this?

sounds like the audio bit rates are different, your cam could be set to 16bit and FCP could be on 12 bit, make sure you check the bitrate on the camera

Nope. Camera was set to record and output in 16-bit.

Found the problem. It's wierd but i found it.

I was using capture now and then starting the tape and this somehow bumped the audio out of sync. It shouldn't happen but it did. anyway i just logged the whole tape and then batch captured and it is now in sync. then i used dv start/stop detect on that. Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

PS. It also seems to work if you start the tape with some pre-roll then click capture now - not the other way arround.
