I have been using apple's mail app with gmail for over a year without any problems. Now all of a sudden over the past few days it won't send. I keep getting the popup prompt for my password saying it was rejected. Anyone else have these issues with mail or gmail before?

Same here… I have to close Mail and open it again to be able to send the e-mail… sometimes if I slightly edit the mail I want to send, it is sent, but could be just mere coincidence. Nevertheless, it is annoying.

I get this same thing, and it's not just gmail. I haven't been able to send anything from Mail for a while. I've just been using it to notify me of new messages, then I go to the actual site to reply.
Big pain in the butt.

Try removing your mail accounts and re-adding them, or deleting Mail's .plist file.

iamdravenman, does your ISP block port 25 (they may have just started doing it)? If so, go to your Mail Preferences>Accounts>Account Information and under the Outgoing Mail Server settings, click the Server Settings... button. Enter 587 in place of 25 for the Server Port and OK it.
This might also be the problem for the others posting here. FWIW, Gmail definitely has to use port 587 in place of 25.

Thanks for the input. I tried it, but it didn't work, not even on Gmail. I'm guessing my ISP did switch over to blocking recently, but I haven't had time to call them. I guess I'll have to make time if I want this fixed.
Thanks again.
