Dose Microsoft's version of Windows media player for Mac OSX have the ability to install active x, trojans, malware, and spyware on Intel based i macs ?

I am real leery about downloading anything made by Microsoft for fear that M$ will ruin my Intel based i mac by planting active X and various types of spyware onto my mac. I hate Microsoft with a passion and I would rather wait for Flip for mac to release a WMV decoder that is compatible with Macintels but unfortunately I don’t see that happening anytime soon. It seems like 80 percent of Movie clips on the internet use WMV format, and I’m tired of not being able to watch Videos.
If MS has the ability to install spyware, active x and trojans onto my macintel I’ll wait until flip for mac releases a decoder that is compatible with Intel based i macs. but if Intel based I macs are immune to Microsoft’s hazardous poison viruses, malware, trojans, active X and so on, then I will cave in and download Microsoft’s decoder for Mac OSX. The link is located right here on Apples website. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...formacosx.html
I use Mac OSX and want nothing to do with Bootcamp any suggestions would be very much appreciated

If you scroll down a bit you might see the "Flip4Mac Universal Binary is out!"-thread.

No, absolutely not. This Is Not Windows.

MS WMP for Mac sucks anyway, if I were forced to use it over Flip4Mac I'd rather not watch the WMVs at all (even IF it were able to play them in the first place... most of the time I found that it couldn't!).

Not to mention that Microsoft is not developing WMP for Mac any more. The version available for download is PPC. It would run under Rosetta on Intel Macs, and wouldn't put anyone at risk of malware, etc.

Hi everybody thanks for the replies
Wow heres what happened I downloaded flip for mac then proceeded to instal it onto my mac. Less then 5 minutes after I installed it, the mac froze and the pointer would not move. I pushed the power button on back of the screen then waited 1 minute then rebooted the computer but the mac would not start all I saw as a black screen. The neon green light on the right side of the mac was solid neon green, and it was not flashing. I rebooted the mac about 20 times still no go black screen of death.
I called Apple care the next day and the technician told me that the problem might have had something to do with f4m conflicting with the system. We did a archive install tested the hardware and the hardware test results came back negative. The technician said the problem most likely had something to do with F4M conflicting with pre installed software. I swear I’ll never ever again download a third party add on that is not made by Apple.

By "hardware test was negative" I assume that it didn't find any problems with your hardware. Cause software should not be able to damage the hardware.

One should be careful not to install any hack one encounters, but proper and common plug-ins (and Flip4Mac is a proper QuickTime-plug-in) from respectable software makers can be installed quite safely. You can give Flip4Mac another try once it is out of beta. Actually I suspect that your problem was unrelated and just happened to surface after the reboot.
