Forcing Safari to open in tabs?

I got my macbook about a month ago and coming from windows I used Firefox. My favorite feature of FF was the ability to force all links that try to open a new window, to open in a new tab instead. FF on mac has this as well but I like Safari because it feels more integrated into the OS (and well, its prettier).
I'm using Stand on safari and it has an option to force _blank links into a new tab but I still get the occasional link (external links in gmail particularly) that opens a new window. Stand does the job most other times, but I wish there was another way to do it, FF's option does it right, but I'd rather use Safari if given the choice really.
Also, is there options like this for other browsers? I'm still debating what I want to end up using mainly.

I prefer tabs too most of the time. I just hold down the modifier keys to make that happen.

I do that now, just I forget to hit them sometimes and its annoying, I'm so used to just clicking.

SafariStand has this option, as do other Safari add-ons I'm sure.
In SafariStand it is worded as Open '_blank' Link in New Tab on the General tab.

That is what I'm currently using (see original post) but it misses links in gmail so I wondered if there were other ones in addition or in supplement to catch the gmail links.

I agree on that Stand does seem to miss some of the links. Apple definately needs to do something about the Tabs in the next release... Sorry I can't add any suggestions on another plug-in...I think SafariStand is the best we can get... Omniweb does a fairly good job, and it feels more Mac like...5.5 Beta 2...
