Intel 20" iMac, 2Ghz, 2G ram, )S X 10.4.7. Photoshop CS2 (9.01), will open after startup, but if I then shut it down, on the next attempt it will not launch, and delivers the "quit unexpectedly" dialogue. I have trashed prefs and reinstalled, but to no effect. If I shut down and restart, or even restart the computer, the applications will launch. Logging out and in does not do the trick. This is also the case with Bridge (10.0.0.545) and Photoshop Elements 4.0. There is something fundamental going on, but I cannot figure it out. Has anyone else had the same experience? Has anyone found a solution?

I haven't the apps unexpectedly quit, they just fail to launch (while Intel native or Universal apps run just fine). It seems like every so often, Rosetta stops working and a reboot fixes it.

I don't know if you've installed Security Update 1006-004 (Intel). But in my opinion it's the problem. I've archived and reinstalled twice today, the first time re-installing the update. The problem persisted. So I did it again, this time skipping the update. No problems since. These security updates have given a lot of trouble in the past. I think here's another example.

Any chance either of you is running Shapeshifter Beta? This is a symptom of an issue they are still working on.

If so, to fix, use Terminal and enter: sudo killall translated and enter your passw when prompted.

Just a guess...

Luck.

No ShapeShifter here, and I had this problem before (and after) the last security update. I think others have reported it too....I had a thread about this in the OS X forum a while ago.

just a tip for everyone, save often and save many different versions. like Save_001.xxx, Save_002.xxx. for those of you that already do it may sound like a wasted tip, but i have had soooo many classmates and friends not save their projects often enough, or save only one version. it doesnt help your problem but it saves on the stress of doing things over again.
