I'm having problems viewing CNN video on my Intel iMac using Firefox (all versions up to and including 1.5.0.6). When I click on a video clip at http://cnn.com, nothing happens. No page tranistion. No new window. Nothing.

Here are some of the things that I've tried/noticed.

1. I have javascript enabled.
2. I'm not blocking any pop-up windows at all.
3. I'm running OS X 10.4.7 on an Intel iMac
4. It works okay using Safari
5. The javascript console shows the following error: "Error: cnnDetectCNNPipeLine is not defined"
6. When I view the page source, there certainly isn't a function defined for the PipeLine call above, but then again, it isn't there when I view the source using Safari either.
7. I've had various versions of Flash installed, including the latest version 9. (I'm not even sure that Flash is involved though.)

I'm running out of ideas. Does this work for anyone else on Intel?

Thanks for any clues you can provide.

Install the universal version of Flip4Mac. Can be found at VersionTracker.com or MacUpdate.com.

That didn't work either. Thanks for the tip though. I can now add the following to my list of things I've done.

8. Installed Flip4Mac and restarted Firefox. Still no luck.

I just ran Disk Utility.app and repaired the permissions. It found several problems and corrected them. But after the reboot, it still doesn't work.

Do you have the latest version of Firefox installed?
Are there missing plugins?
Have you confirmed that CNN supports Firefox with its streaming videos?
Contact the webmaster at CNN regarding your situation.

CNN's video is typically in a Windows Media Player format-thus the advice to use Flip4Mac. That should fix it, and without WMP (which tanks on any platform). This is truly odd-there's nothing different about CNN's videos except for their file format...

To answer the last couple of posts: (1) yes I'm running the latest Firefox, (2) can you be more specific about missing plugins? I have the Flip4Mac plugin set to handle WMV files, which is what is used by CNN. Contacting the CNN webmaster has proven to be worthless. One automated responses and nothing more for weeks.

Nobody has replied yet saying that CNN video works for them on an Intel iMac. I'm still curious to know if this is a problem with just my configuration, or a larger problem. Can someone that has this working chime in quickly with a "it works for me" post?

Thanks.

Works fine on my Intel iMac in both Safari and Firefox 2.0b1 with Flip4Mac 2.1.

In my experience Flip4Mac only works on Safari. Have you tried using this browser instead?

Fair enough, but on their website they do not claim to support firefox, only safari

Maybe the poster is an example of why they only support Safari. It doesn't yet work reliably on Firefox. It works on both Firefox 1.5.0.6 and 2.0b1 on my Intel iMac, but there was some visual problems on 1.5.0.6.

I am using Flip4Mac with Firefox. It works. I have an extension called Unplug, which can create a link to enable downloading the media file. Sometimes that works better.
