I'm trying to explore the alternatives to the iPod.. my 3G iPod is dead and looking to see where the competition stands. Please do no advocate the iPod here, I am simply looking to see what else exists, and what software exists for sync purposes, etc.

I liked my iPod, but want to comparison shop before deciding upon a replacement.

Looking for names of such software and which players are compatible.

And/or are there ways/plug-ins so that iTunes works with other players?

Thanks,
Mike

Checkout this tutorial here. It allows you to sync itunes with any usb mass storage device. The tutorial was written so I could sync my ppc-6700 to itunes but will work with other stuff.

As long as the mp3 player you get will mount in OS X, you can use SyncTunes to copy music over.

iTunesMyWalkman (great for SE phones), or SyncTunes should do what you want. Neither are iTunes plugins (that would be nice) but work nevertheless.
