I looked around and couldnt find any answer so sorry if this has been asked before. I use aol dial up ( yea I know I know lol) and when online and try to use ichat I get this message "A connection already exists from your computer’s IP address. Only one connection per IP address is allowed." Is there anyway to get around this since I want to video chat but Adium and AOL dont offer it, or know of any program that does? Thanks!

Video chat is not going to work with dialup as you can see in the table at the bottom of the linked page. You might be able to avoid the double-log-in error message by not using the AOL software, but just log in regularly.

What do you mean by that? If you mean the AOL internet service, then the clear answer is: you don't. Why would anyone but a grandmother without a clue want to use AOL? If you mean AIM: iChat supports that.

Sorry for not being clear:

i meant AIM. I gave up on this about 5 years ago and don't remember much about it

do I have to download additional software than what comes with the mac 10.4?
where would I go to understand how AIM currently works or if I start iChat it sets up the accounts I need to iChat?
I have to wait for my MacPro as my iSight for that comes at the same time

the Macbook uses its built in cam/microphone by defualt i assume

thanks

You don't have to download additional software. You can simply enter your AIM-account info into iChat and use it. It works with the iSight and the built-in iSight of the Macbook of course.

http://www.aim.com/

Click where it says "Don't have a screen name? Get one FREE".

http://www.apple.com/dotmac/

Alternatively you can apply for the "Free Trial" feature of .Mac. The for pay features e-mail, iDisk and all the other stuff will expire after 60 days, but you will keep your .Mac screen name for use with iChat forever without having to pay. Those are in the format myname@mac.com. The .Mac screen names are completely compatible with AIM (you can use them with the official AIM-client even, on Windows too) and you avoid AOL.

Great Help!

i thought Id have to do something with AOL and forgot about AIM.com

Ill try to set this up with .Mac

btw, I have 3 year service with mac for both new items. is .mac included?
if not does the 'free' .mac expire on its own with no charges or do I have to actively terminate it?

Ill go to the mac site and rummage around to see the details of .MAC

thanks again

I'm pretty sure it isn't.

It'll expire on its own (afaik). You don't have to enter your credit card info for the trial.
