I am not sure if this belongs under OS or games or here. 3 of my games have stopped producing sound. The mute option is not turned on, and sound from the speech synthesizer, the system sounds, and music are all normal.
What could be wrong, and how do I fix it? Would I have to reinstall something?
I already tried reinstalling all 3 games from scratch. That did not help.

I just got my sounds back. I restored a backup of the AudioMidi preference plist file.
I wonder how it got wrecked in the first place?

It probably didn't get wrecked. Some audio apps set switch from 48 kHz to 192 kHz for instance -- and then RealPlayer is suddenly mute on my system.

So I would have checked those settings first in Audio Midi Setup.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Great reference. Thanks.
Would you happen to know how to fix the connection to the Apple update server? I have lost connection to it.
