In windows when viewing a folder with pictures and video you can have everything in that folder displayed as thumbnails. Anyway to do this is OSX?

Also, I find that i'm using 3 different programs to view my video files:
Quicktime
VLC
Flip4mac(very slow)

Is it possible to have one player play .avi, .wmv, mpg as well as xvid and dvix? And launch quickly?

Many image editors will save thumbnail icons, but the Finder has no capability to do so. I don't know of a way to make videos have thumbnail icons, short of doing it manually for each one. (You can set file icons in the Finder's get info window; select the icon by clicking on it or tabbing to it and then paste whatever image you like. It will even scale it down to fit)

QuickTime plays everything for me, except ogm, mkv and the occasional ASP mp4. VLC can do the same, except it plays those types and not WMV3 (though that apparently is coming soon) or Indeo (QT plays indeo in classic). I'm afraid you won't get a more useful response until you say what exactly is your objection to either of those options.

Oh, I got the thumbnails to display for photos in finder, but not for video.

And I got quicktime to play all the formats I need however it is quite slow. I guess I just need more ram.

That would probably help. What are your current system specs, and what resolution video do you ordinarily play? And do you mean slow to open movies, or to scrub through them, or to play (decode) them?

I've been toying with the idea of writing an app to make video thumbnails, though I don't generally have time to do the things I think I can. It would be quite easy with cocoa's QTMovie and IconFamily. I might get around to it if none of our intrepid readers beats me to it...
