hi all. so i read the little blurb on macnn about new software from musicast and thought it sounded pretty cool. basically, you can share your playlists over the internet so you or others can subscribe to them to listen. even better, you can use a cell phone/pda to access them anywhere to listen in. i thought this would be spectacular, but in checking out their web site i got a bit nervous. ignoring that their site pretty much doesn't seem to work in large part, whether using any of 3 browsers... a few of their answers in the faq (under support section) made me down right scared to even give it a shot. here are a few excerpts:

What about the RIAA?
Musicast is completely legal as long as you're not sharing copyrighted material. Even if you do happen to be sharing stuff you aren't supposed to be, Mr. RIAA would have to guess your IP address to even find your Musicast to see your huge stash of copyrighted music.

In version 1.1 (coming soon) we plan to add password protection to further protect our users and their rights.

and:

Does Musicast pose any security risks?
Musicast is like a web server. When someone accesses your Musicast, they are indeed connecting to your computer, but it does NOT pose any security risks whatsoever, except that maybe they might jack your favorite songs. ;-)

so the security response makes me think these guys haven't spent a moment considering the rather significant risks to opening a port on your router/firewall and turning your home computer into a web server accessible by anyone. the riaa comment is just plain stupid though, "...as long as you're not sharing copyrighted material..." come on... all the music we listen to is copyrighted unless it is my own creation.

so onto my question... has anyone used this software? i would love to check it out because it sounds so cool, but i am concerned that this is one guy in a garage with a great idea, but who is executing it like a moron. any feedback here? thanks.
