importing .mac mail to thunderbird?

so i have been using mail and my .mac email for 3 years now since i got my first powerbook. I want to get away from it and start using my gmail account more and be able to use one app for both. I started using thunderbird and i like it. How can i import my mac mail to thunderbird because it doesnt use an IMAP or POP server?(i think)

.Mac uses IMAP. Unless you have some "On my Mac" folder you can access all your .Mac mail by setting up your .Mac account in Thunderbird as an IMAP-account. If you do have some "On my Mac" folders in Mail create equivalent folders on the .Mac server, copy your mails into these folders and they will appear in Thunderbird.
